Hey Charlie, thanks a lot for taking a little time to talk to your brazilian fans and everything, we appreciate that you are being so sweet for doing this and that Foforks is actually the first brazilian website to have this chance. So we have some questions for you, here we go:

So first of all, you got to a certain point of recognition and fame really fast, and that’s not bad at all, but does this affect your motivation in any way? What I mean is, having Demetri as your breakout role motivates you to go further or makes you confortable knowing that you are in a pretty good place right now and can take it easy? What else motivates you besides fame?

Firstly – you Brazilians are insane. I mean, I am genuinely afraid for my clothes if I ever came down there.

It’s great to get an outside perspective on my progress so far. I understand the importance of a loyal, plentiful and understanding fanbase and, as such, I try to satiate that demand as much as possible. Not only that, but such is the nature of casting these days – an actor has a greater chance of success if he has a recognizable name and strong following.

Personally, I don’t see myself as famous – nothing has changed for me in my attitude towards my goals in life; my dreams haven’t shifted in spite of the craziness of the Brazilian fans… I mean the craziness of the last 9 months.

The one big difference I have noticed is that I am now free to explore every avenue of life, career and relationships that have ever struck a chord with me – and although fame and fortune are not my drivers, it is because of these bi-products of gaining this role that this has come about.

As great as Twilight is to be a part of, it is merely the first step on a long journey full of excitement and creation and wonderousness. Big Picture: My ultimate focus is there.

The brazilian fans really like you a lot (and I mean a lot!) and you’ve said that you’d like to como to Brazil in the future. So what do you know about our country that made you want to pay us a visit? Is there a chance of seeing you around here anytime soon?

I went to Brazil a while back on a rugby tour…. Iguazu falls was all we got to see, but I could sense the electric culture from across the awe-inspiring cascading waters…!!

I have heard so many stories of the passion Brazilians have. I have played futbol all my life and marveled at the audacious creativity of your players…

The Rio Carnival: I cannot wait to come; I may never leave. When I travel, I absorb myself in culture to the point of chameleon status and fall in love with the spirit of other worlds. Exploring: it remains my favourite thing to do.

We had Anna Kendrick up for an Oscar a few months ago, and she is one of the supportive roles in the Saga. Do you have this kind of ambition for your career, is this one of your goals as an actor or you dont think that much further into it yet and just enjoy the moment?

I feel I have an Oscar-worthy performance in me now. It’s just a matter of finding the role. That said, I will never go out there and try to win an Oscar…. can you imagine??! Nasty.

Acting is about an honest representation of a character given his life context and situation – a roll, a character is Oscar-worthy; the actor either does that justice or they fail.

There are fun roles out there, action roles, epic roles, fantasy rolls which I would love to do – ultimately it’s those which affect the audience by the honesty of the performance which I am looking at in the long-run.

Taylor recently said that he was a little afraid coming to Brazil, because during the press junket at the hotel he (and Kristen) was wrongly informed that hundreds of girls were trying to get to his floor to meet him. How would you react in those kind of situations, all the screaming girls going to you? You just accept that this is how it is being part of the cast or would you just jump off the window to save the trouble? lol

I was confronted by a similar crazy-Latino situation back in Montepulciano, Italy last Summer during the shooting of New Moon. Admittedly, I wasn’t in that much danger back then, but I felt first-hand the raw vampiric desire of these young fans…

Personally, I love it. Scared? Nnnnnever… I used to get my eyes gouged by 6′7″ Welshmen on a regular basis … I can handle a Brazilian Wave of females… you see.

You must be getting tired of hearing questions about this, but do you have any news about Breaking Dawn? Because Eclipse was actually filmed pretty close after New Moon and until now we dont have anything certain besides rumours, did you sign anything to come back for it or they didnt tell you anything yet?

I know less than you do… promise.

And speaking of rumours, the only things that we’ve been hearing about is that Breaking Dawn is more likely to be made in 2 movies to explain a little better the story, and that it could actualy be in 3-D. Do you think these are good options to film the end of the Saga? Fights in 3-D and telling the story from different perspectives like in the book and all that?

Twilight has had a precedence for change ever since Catherine Hardwick decided not to continue directing the Saga. That opened up Summit to change – and change they did. I believe this has worked out favourably.

I am someone who embraces change on a daily basis – it is a pre-requisite for an evolving existence. Film is similarly constantly changing and 3-D has brought us a brilliant new medium of experiencing tales. If BD is to be shot, if it is chosen that 3-D is beneficial given the story and action – then great. Do it.

Do you think that the amount of lines for a character in a movie settles the importance and the impact of the role or that it is actually up for the actor to made his work memorable? Because let us tell you one thing, Demetri getting Alice by the neck no one will ever forget! Just like Felix beating the crap out of Edward in New Moon! lol

There are no small roles. Many lives of characters make up a movie… it just so happens that the camera is focussed on certain characters more than others. That doesn’t render my role in the story any less worthy… I still have to bring honesty to my character at all moments whether it is scripted or not, I have to act organically in any given situation.

And since we are talking about you in New Moon, I dont think that a lot of people noticed the look you gave to Kristen/Bella in the elevator. Was that something that you brought to the scene, like Demetri smelling her blood maybe or was it just something you did out of nothing? Because since you always have motives for Demetri’s actions, like his detailed background and stuff that you’ve created, maybe that was also for a reason, so was it?

The elevator scene was case-in-point: It was the first scene I shot. No script, no blocking. Just “be” in the elevator. Well, given the nature of the characters in the elevator at the time, their situations and the geographical context… wasn’t going to be a particularly pleasant, tentionless journey to the centre of the world, was it?

I thought to myself before we rolled camera.. “I am Demetri, this is who I am, what I’m here for… here is an elevator full of vampires. Except for her. She’s a big plate of food….

….Control yourself.”

Your contribuition in Eclipse with the Volturi was rather fast and more for the sake of watching what was happening with the newborns and Cullens, but did you have a chance to see the filming a little more? Maybe what happened during other stuff like the war and other scenes?

We, the Volturi… me, Demetri (THE elite vampire, in-the-world) – have some very cool stuff in Eclipse. Yes, a fleeting visit but powerful and prominent. We are the Volturi, after all. Efficient, yet not exactly subtle

Without giving much away or much details (because we know you cant even if you wanted to lol), could you tell us how was the mood around the set or anything cool that you got a chance to see behind the scenes or even on the screen?

The one thing that struck me about Eclipse was the grand effort going on to make the fight scenes as brilliant as possible. All our scenes were shot on the battleground set in deep dark British Columbia, during the damp and gloom of the fall. You could taste the magic of the underworld just being on that set.

Huge cranes erected around the woodland, stuntmen rehearsing, not to mention all the training some of the cast were put thru… I get the feeling we’re in for a bit of a visual treat… I for one am very excited about Eclipse… simultaneouslyjealousthatididn’tgettofightmore.

Even if you didn’t have that much time around the set in Eclipse as you did in New Moon, what was the differences that you noticed between Weitz and Slade? Anything that you really liked this time around or that you thought was different from New Moon in a good way?

Very different experience second time around.

Character-wise; I was on a bit more of a leash with David. That’s great, he has a vision, I have embodied a character and we collaborate to refine who Demetri is. It’s great to have a director come up to you and say, “I want you more REAL”. I’m all about REALNESS.

David will bring that to Eclipse I hope. He is a Brit and as such will strip away some Hollywood from the Saga – giving a more raw experience. I feel that Eclipse, my favourite of the books, needs that aspect in order to demonstrate the primal ferocity of what being a vampire is like.

David has a vision for this – a specific one which he holds stubbornly to: another Brit trait Chris, having brought all the pieces to the table, allowed the jigsaw to solve itself, naturally… Two very different styles; great to work under both, really… an honour.

You use Twitter a lot (not as much as Peter but still lol). So how do you see the internet thing? Do you like to use as a way to get in contact with the fans or talking to them is just a bonus? Do you get a lot of crazy messages or anything? Which one was the most surprising or even crazy?

Well, the reason this Twilight thing is so big is because of it’s cyber-presence…. the clamour around the books (firstly), then the characters and ultimately the actors chosen to play them was manifested on the internet. Cyber-existence is today’s new surreality – very Matrixy. Ergo, vis-a-vis – I naturally feel that a strong cyber-presence of my own is important. Much like balancing the craft of acting with your publicity – a good balance between the real you and the online version is important. And so I like to keep you all in the loop.

I get some seriously R-rated stuff coming my way… it’s all fun and games – I’m quite the empath so nothing really phases me. But you gotta smile when people are genuinely hanging on your one shout out to them; or, more extremely, sending you pornographic pictures of themselves and promising late-night debauchery in their hotel-rooms.

Meh.

New Moon was your first big job and right at the beggining you acted alongside with great people like Michael Sheen, how was that experience for you being a newcomer at the time?

I was nervous. I think anyone would be. But over time I have learned to deal with my nerves – control them – quickly… on top of that, I am a quick study and am very good at pretending I know what I’m doing because, let’s face it, that’s what 95% of us are doing 95% the time.

I have realised that I am a sponge to other peoples’ characters; their idiosyncrasies I seem to pick up and harness to my being… This is what everyone one of us does but on a subconscious level; I now see it very clearly, who I am made up of.

That being said, working with the Sheens and Fannings of this world was a valuable experience; I felt zoned into their process in order to speed up my own education. That’s what it is, an education. Same with anything really, you develop fastest by being around those who are more experienced than you.

Throw yourself in at the deep-end I say.

Seeing the final product and analyzing your own work, would you do something different in the way you portraited Demetri or was that everything you hoped for your character?

Always the self-critic; yes, I would loosen up my performance – being more natural is what I strive for in all walks of life… trusting instinct. There was much of that on display in New Moon, and I really enjoyed the process – but one is still bound by their “marks” and the camera angle… it’s not like the camera works around you all the time. Some of my shots were tricky in that respect and I can see the result as being a little awkward – the key is to blend this control seemlessly into the natural behaviour of the character.

This last question is actually pretty easy and fun, just answer the first thing that comes to your mind when you read them ok?

Hey Charlie, merci beaucoup de prendre un moment pour tes fans Brésiliens, nous sommes très heureux que tu es été assez gentil pour faire cela et que FoForks soit le 1^er site Brésilien qui a cette chance en fait. Donc, nous avons quelques questions pour toi, c’est parti :

Avant tout, tu as atteins un certain stade de « reconnaissance » et de gloire très rapidement, et ça n’est pas mal, mais est ce que cela affecte tes motivations en quoi que ce soit ? Ce que je veux dire c’est que, d’avoir Demetri comme rôle t’ayant permit d’être remarqué te motive à aller de l’avant ou te fait te sentir confortablement installer, en sachant que tu es au bon endroit maintenant et que ça va être facile ? Qu’est ce qui te motive à part la gloire ?

D’abord – Vous, les Brésiliens, êtes fous. J’ai littéralement eu peur pour mes vêtements en arrivant.

C’est bon d’avoir une perspective extérieur sur mon parcours jusque là. Je vois bien l’importance de cette loyale, abondante & compréhensible base de fans et, j’essaye de satisfaire la demande, autant que possible. Non seulement ça, mais c’est la nature d’un cast en ce moment – un acteur a les meilleures chances de réussites s’il a un nom reconnu et un fort support.

Personnellement, je ne me vois pas comme célèbre – rien n’a changé pour moi dans mon attitude envers mon but dans la vie, mon rêve n’a pas changé malgré la follie des Brésiliens... je veux dire la folie depuis ces 9 derniers mois.

La grosse différence que j’ai remarquée c’est que je suis maintenant libre d’explorer chaque recoin de la vie, des carrières et des relations que j’ai, ce qui ne m’était jamais arrivé – et même si la gloire et la fortune ne sont pas mon moteur, c’est à cause de ces 2 choses, pour avoir eu ce rôle, que tout ça est arrivé.

Aussi bien qu’être dans Twilight puisse être, c’est simplement le premier pas d’un long voyage plein d’excitation et de création et de psycotage. Gros cliché : Mon centre d’intérêt suprême est là.

Les fans Brésiliens t’aime vraiment beaucoup (je veux vraiment beaucoup !)  et tu as dit vouloir venir au Brésil dans le futur. Donc que sais tu de notre pays qui te fasse vouloir te payer une visite ? Y a-il une chance de te voir dans les environs bientôt ?

Je suis venu au Brésil il y a quelques temps pour un Tour de Rugby... la chute de Iguazu fut tout ce qu’on a peu voir, mais j’ai pu sentir la culture électrique au travers des cascades d’eau terrifiantes... !!

J’ai entendu beaucoup, beaucoup d’histoire sur la passion qu’ont les Brésiliens. J’ai joué au football toute ma vie et je suis émerveillé de la créativité audacieuse de vos joueurs.

Le carnaval de Rio : J’ai trop hâte de venir, je pourrais ne pas partir. Lorsque je voyage, je m’abandonne dans la culture au point de caméléon et je tombe amoureux de l’esprit d’autres mondes. L’exploration : ça reste mon truc préférée.

Je « savourerais » (lol je laisse c’est mimi) l’opportunité de descendre vous voir. Faites que ça arrive... les poussins Australiens l’on fait
